I was actually always a bit afraid of moray eels - I never really dared to get very close to them. My guide saw it completely differently, on every dive when she saw a moray eel she dove within arm's length of the moray eel and even tried to lure it further out of its cave. During this dive we found a huge old moray eel sticking out from under a large overhang. I positioned myself slightly below her and for the first time dared to approach her very slowly, up to 30 cm. It was a great feeling, the moray eel didn't change its behavior in any way. So we were able to observe from very close for over 15 minutes until I had almost no air left in the tank - we were quite deep at around 25m, and due to the excitement I needed a lot of air!
